4 Steps to a life of health and fitness!


With cancer cropping up left and right, people are suddenly becoming more conscious with what they eat and do with their bodies. Fad diets have become a craze and so are gym workouts and alternative exercise for the body. But despite being the in thing to do right now, some people still find it hard to start walking the road to a life of health and fitness. After all, when you have already lived a life of debauchery, it will be harder to convert and walk the other road even if it is not as less traveled by.

To help you, here are some of the ways that you can start with your healthy lifestyle.

1. Don’t smoke If you do not have the habit of smoking, good for you. Don’t try to start as you will only get addicted with the cigarettes and it will be harder to quit when that happens. It is not true that you can smoke and quite when you want to. It’s not. Once you become hooked into it, there is no turning back. If you are already part of those people who burn their lungs out everyday, the best bet is to make a commitment to quit. By doing this, you are already halfway to recovery. Make sure though that you are serious with your plans and you are not just doing it for any other reason than your health.

2. Lessen the junk One of the ways you can help keep your body healthy is to eat foods that are more natural and with less chemical content. Avoid eating junk foods like those huge packs of potato chips or binge on candies. You should also make it a point to lessen your intake of meats and consume more vegetables, fruits and seafood. This does not mean that you will forgo with meat altogether. You should still eat meat. The protein that it contains is important for some of the basic processes of the body.

3. Skip the Soda and even the iced tea As much as you can, drink water. This is the safest and healthiest drink there is. Sodas even the diet ones, are carbonated and contain high amounts of sugar and carbohydrates which can later be translated into fats. You can also try drinking green tea which can help in the digestive system. Iced tea may be tamer than sodas but these drinks also contain a lot of sugar which can pile up in the body. Stick to water and drink lots of it.

4. Stay active Another way to start living a life of health and fitness without having to shell out money and make lots of effort is to schedule an exercise routine every day. You can schedule it every morning when you wake up in the morning or do it at night after work. Whichever schedule you want to, make sure that you keep it to 30 minutes long to an hour. That way, you can exercise those muscles and avoid muscle pains. Exercise will also strengthen your bones and your body, promote better breathing and cellular activity, clear the brain and of course keep those extra calories out of the body. Thus, even if you eat a lot, you are not storing those fats and carbohydrates. You are expending them through your workout routine.

Coconut oil and heart disease!


In this last section we’re going to be examining the claimed benefits of coconut oil in relation to the prevention of heart disease. This is perhaps the most widely contested area of debate in coconut oil research. The high amount of saturated fats in coconut oil would seem to indicate that it would have a negative impact on your health by creating more fatty tissues. However research into the chemical composition of these saturated fats has shown that they are primarily medium chain triglycerides, the least harmful, and most beneficial, form of saturated fats your body can use.

Worldwide cardiovascular disease causes over 12.5 million deaths a year whilst in the US over 60 million people suffer some form of cardiovascular (heart) disease. The most common form of this disease is coronary artery disease which results from the build-up of fat, plaque and scar tissue around the arteries.

The most common causes of cardiovascular disease are;

- High cholesterol
- Heredity
- Smoking
- Obesity
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes

This means that coconut oil would seem an unlikely candidate as a dietary supplement to decrease your risk of heart disease but it actually isn't.

This is all do with the type of saturated fats we ingest on a regular basis. Sri Lankan's for example have the lowest risk of cardiovascular disease in the world and their primary cooking oil comes from coconuts. This may seem incidental but there has been a marked increase in cardiovascular disease in Sri Lanka and India that fits with the increased use of vegetable oils which have replaced traditional cooking aids and consumables.

The saturated fats in most western diets are of a far worse kind. These are high chain triglycerides that the body cannot break down as efficiently as medium chains. This means that they build up as fatty deposits around your heart and arteries increasing the risk of coronary heart disease. Replacing your oils and margarines with coconut oil therefore actually decreases your risk of heart disease and will help you lose weight.

Clearly then we can see that despite appearance coconut oil is actually a better alternative to other oils and should definitely be used as often as possible in order to improve your diet and reduce the risks of heart diseases.

Coconut oil as an aid to digestion!


Coconut oil has long been held to be a useful supplement to aid in digestion. This is one of the key reasons it is the primary ingredient in many curry sources – and why curry goes down so well.

As we have seen in previous chapters coconut oil has strong anti-microbial benefits which when ingested help you to fight off nasty bacteria and bolster your immune system.

Many digestive problems are caused by the presence of microbes in the food we eat. We have a natural set of microbes in our stomach acid that aid digestion but these often react negatively with certain enzymes found in other foods.

This means that the key way virgin coconut oil can help our digestion is by curing indigestion.

Indigestion is primarily caused by acid in your stomach irritating the stomach lining and the top of your small intestine. The most common process that causes it is known as acid reflux. This is most commonly caused by bad diet and obesity as well as stomach ulcers and other stomach infections.

Coconut oil and weight loss!


Many people think that because virgin coconut oil has a high proportion of saturated fat it is bad for you to eat.

This is one of the greatest myths surrounding coconut oil and now turn to dispelling this myth and seeing how you can use coconut oil as a an aid to weight loss.

The chemical make-up of coconut fats

90% of coconut oil is saturated fat. Sounds like a nightmare, doesn't it, but a closer examination reveals the surprising truth.

This is because most of the saturated fatty acids in coconut oil are what are known as medium chain triglycerides. Medium chain triglycerides are actually easier for your body to break down than other saturated fats. Especially those found in fast food and other artificially created products. This is because there are fundamental differences in the chain composition in these fats which mean they are harder for your body to breakdown - which in turn means they are more likely to accumulate in your arteries and in your skin tissue.

Further, the saturated fats in coconut oil - especially the Lauric acid actually increase the body's metabolism and promote optimal health of the thyroid and enzymes systems. Having a high metabolism means that the body burns calories at an increased rate. This is due to the acidity of your stomach acid and how effectively it can convert food to energy. Having a healthy gut will greatly increase your chances of having a high metabolism and help you start shedding weight.

The enzymes contained within coconut oil actually act as catalysts to your stomach acid and help you break down fat at an increased rate- and as your metabolism is also increased you can burn a higher proportion of the calories you take in. They also help to promote a healthy gut by fighting bacteria and strengthening the stomach lining. Hence coconut oil actually is much better for you to use in cooking and food than other alternatives as it has added benefits not found in vegetable and olive oil.

Over the next couple of weeks we'll be sharing with you the many benefits of the coconut and tackling the myths that surround the coconut.

The coconut tree is one of the most versatile plants in existence. Whilst we are all familiar with the coconut as a food source not many of us know the myriad of other benefits the coconut holds. In many countries coconut husks are woven into fabrics for mats, insulation and much more. The shells themselves are used as bowls, to make utensils and as flotation devices for rafts. Yet it is the coconut itself that draws the most interest. Coconut flesh has a beautiful taste and is used all over the world in a variety of cooking styles. Coconut milk is gorgeous to drink on its own and also is the chief ingredient in curries all over the world.

Over the years there have been many, many claims made about the natural health benefits of coconut oil mostly surrounding the dietary and medicinal properties that it holds. This is why in the west coconut oil has quickly become a hot consumer product with thousands of companies including it in their beauty products and thousands of recipes including it as an alternative to other oils.

Yet a lot of controversy still surrounds the actual health benefits of coconut and debates still exist as to whether claims of its benefits have been exaggerated. This is where this book comes into play. The Psychological Factor for abs part 2!

Instead of telling yourself that you want to lose 20 pounds, tell yourself that this is your ultimate goal, but your goal for the next week is to lose 2 pounds. Begin your regimen of diet and exercise and you will easily lose the 2 pounds. You will feel good about yourself as you have achieved a small goal that is on the way towards a larger goal.

The same way of thinking must be used when you are trying to achieve the perfect six pack abs. When you have reached your goal weight and are ready to define your abs so that you have the perfect six pack, start to break the goal down into smaller goals. It is often too overwhelming for someone to only focus on the large goal when they are trying to attain a big improvement in their life. And a perfectly sculpted body is a big improvement.

Instead of looking at the entire picture, break it down. Set your smaller goals so that you can achieve the large one by saying that your goal for this week is to make it to the gym every day and achieve a certain number of reps or maintain a certain amount of time on a machine. One of the best aspects about the cardiovascular exercise machines is that they can give you results right away as to how much time you have spent on them, the calories you have burned and the workout you achieved. If you try to attain a little bit more each time, you will be not only working towards your goals, but you will also feel good about yourself.

You will find that by exercising regularly and eating healthy foods you will start to develop a positive mindset as it is. Exercise is like a wonder drug and can rejuvenate you. You will notice that you have more energy and feel better about yourself when you are exercising your way towards the perfect six pack abs. Your entire body will feel and look healthier.

It may take a couple of months before you can achieve the six pack abs that you want, depending on your current weight and health. It may even take longer. But if you set small goals for yourself and work towards achieving those goals, you will continue to feel motivated about having the perfect six pack.

Occasionally, you might indulge in something that is not good for you or skip exercise. If this happens, do not let it deter you from your goal. One of the reasons why many people fail to achieve their goals is because they give up the first time they encounter adversity. They go off the wagon by eating something that they should not eat, or not exercising for a day or two and figure that they should just give up. People who diet and try to quit smoking also make this mistake. One of the biggest secrets to having the perfect abs is that you cannot give up. If you fall off the wagon, just jump back on it again. Do not beat yourself up over a failure because that is self defeating.

Hang a picture of the perfect six pack abs where you can see it every day so that you can continue to work towards your goal. Motivate yourself by small rewards for a job well done by giving yourself small gifts or treating yourself to something that you like each time you reach a goal. Have a motivation in mind for when you actually achieve the large goal, too, although having the perfect abs and achieving the goal of realizing this is reward enough for your endeavors.
