Coffee / Caffeine and Its Role in Weight Loss!

The general opinion on the benefits of coffee or more specifically caffeine to our health is not unanimous. Some say it’s good, but some believe otherwise. Nevertheless, we’ll have to ignore the voice of the majority for a while, and concentrate solely on the role of caffeine in sports performance.

Drink It or Dump It?
Before you answer that question, let’s take a brief look on some of the possible benefits of caffeine for athletes:

The Pain’s Not That Bad
A higher than usual amount of caffeine in your system will make you not as insensitive as you usually are to pain. This is pleasant news for all athletes. Imagine playing a game – any sport would do – then accidentally injuring yourself. While it’s not that serious, the pain is intense enough to make you want to quit. But that won’t happen if you’ve drunk enough caffeine before the game. With caffeine working in your system, the pain’s not that bad. The pain would be tolerable at the least, but enough to make you continue playing in the game.

One Shot to Success
Let’s say you’re the MVP of your team and you’re carrying the weight of the whole championship on your shoulders. It’s the last game. It’s the most important game in your life, and you know you need just 1% more of your usual energy and efficiency to clinch the win. That extra 1% can be yours…if, once more, you’ve the right amount of caffeine in your body.

It’s a well-known fact that caffeine has a boosting effect on a person’s mind and body. That’s the kind of effect some athletes need when they’re playing the most important game in their careers.

Shake It Off
Energy levels aside, you just feel you’re strong and refreshed the whole time. That’s how caffeine is. It allows you to continue to play and perform longer and better than others. You’re like a battery that’s fully charged the whole game, while the power levels of other batteries are slowly going down to zero. With caffeine doing its mojo bit in your system, you’re able to shake off your fatigue like it’s nothing but dust.

Better Mental Vision
Problems also appear more clearly in your mind when you’ve got enough caffeine in your system. There are no twisting tangles which make you unable to reach split-second decisions. Most sports are made difficult because of the time factor. When each second counts, it’s imperative that you can still think clearly even as the pressure gets more and more unbearable. The presence of caffeine, however, will help in preventing you from making ill-advised decisions.

Burn More Fats
Caffeine speeds up the fat burning process or lipolysis. Unless you’re a sumo wrestler – a sport in which greater bulk is generally encouraged – most sports require people to have a leaner or tougher frame. Increasing your caffeine consumption can help you achieve that goal. Caffeine can help you manage your weight better, and in time to become physically fit for the championship bout.

Ideal for Endurance Sports
Caffeine also works better than usual when used to achieve greater results in endurance sports like swimming and tennis. In games where the last man standing wins, caffeine is most likely to provide the user with maximum benefits. Scientific studies have already proven that this claim is genuine.

Tips on Taking Coffee to Improve Sports Performance
Consult your personal or team physician about your plan to increase consumption of coffee. Your physiological makeup may have certain unique factors that will lead to an undesirable reaction when too much caffeine is consumed.

Know the official rules of the sport and the league because they may have set a limit on the amount of caffeine a player can consume prior to the game.

If you’re going to use caffeine to boost your performance, make sure you do so at least three hours before the start of the game. The desired effects of caffeine take that long before it can operate.

If you’ve already been drinking caffeine as a performance booster for a long time, you should know that habitual drinking will increase your tolerance for caffeine while reducing its impact on your body. When this happens, refrain from drinking coffee at least 3 days prior to the competition for your tolerance level to go back to normal.

Make it a great day!
